 Michael Elliott-Smith Artist Statement |
| I was born in Natchez, MS and grew up on a farm in
Concordia Parish, LA. In my youth, I spent many hours exploring woods and bayous. I
enjoyed watching the vast open sky as I worked in the fields; to see
cloud formations float over the land, their shapes constantly evolving
as they went along on their journey, as the light changed the landscape
as the day passed. My childhood experiences have greatly influenced my
photographic vision.
The world is always in motion; my photographs only halt the moment. When the shutter closes, time resumes its onward march, the scene changes as clouds head for the horizon, as flowers open and die and structures decay. I simply present my interpretation of the world. |
